The surrounding national park is home to rocky mountain elk, mule deer, merriam's turkey, dusky grouse, black bear, and mountain lion.  The surrounding area is home to rocky mountain elk year-round.  Elk calf, breed, and winter in the area.  Elk antler sheds are easy to find every spring.
